“EMPOWERING CHANGE: INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURIAL LEADERSHIP FOR INCLUSIVE AND SUSTAINABLE PROSPERITY”

The Faculty of Management Studies proudly presents the 5th International Conference on Management and Entrepreneurship (ICOME 2026) under the theme “Empowering Change: Innovation and Entrepreneurial Leadership for Inclusive and Sustainable Prosperity,” scheduled to be held on 23rd October 2026. This conference aims to bring together academics, researchers, and industry professionals to discuss emerging trends and advancements in management and entrepreneurship.

The event will cover five key tracks, namely, Accounting, Finance, and Banking; Work, Organization, and Digital Society; Marketing, Supply Chain Management, and Procurement; Human Resource Management and Best Practices; and Innovation and Entrepreneurship. In addition, ICOME 2026 will feature several interactive sessions, including the Doctoral Colloquium, Pre-conference sessions, Industry Forum, providing a platform for knowledge exchange, industry collaboration, and innovative discussions. We invite scholars and practitioners to participate in shaping the future of management and entrepreneurship through this dynamic and intellectually enriching event.

Objectives

To bring local and foreign researchers and practitioners to a common forum to share and disseminate knowledge on current developments and insights in Business Management and Entrepreneurship.

To strengthen the scholarly and professional network among researchers.

To underpin the need for collaboration and cooperation of individuals from a wide range of professional backgrounds in Business Management and Entrepreneurship to contribute for a sustainable future.

ICOME 2025 will take place on 11th  September 2025 in a hybrid mode, offering both virtual and in-person participation at Center for Water Supply and Sanitation (Cewas).

Cewas boasts state-of-the-art conferencing facilities, including a modern auditorium,  conference halls, classroom setups, a board room, computer labs and a spacius on-site cafeteria

For in-house sessions, it provides comfortable accommodation with 18 rooms. The center also features a well-equipped gymnasium, a library, and parking facilities.

Cewas, serving as the external arm of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, is located in the tranquil Bolgoda Plains at No. 10, Egodahena Road, Rathmalana.

Keynote Speaker

Professor Indra Abeysekera

Emeritus Professor, Charles Darwin University, Australia

Professor Indra Abeysekera is an internationally recognized scholar in accounting, business, and management, with an extensive academic and professional background spanning multiple countries. He holds a PhD and several postgraduate qualifications, including an MA, MCom, MEd from the University of Sydney, MSc from the University of Wales, and a Graduate Diploma in Higher Education from Macquarie University. He earned his BSc from the University of Peradeniya and further specialized with a Graduate Certificate in Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination from West Virginia University. Professor Abeysekera is a highly credentialed accounting professional, holding designations as a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA Australia), Chartered Accountant (Australia and New Zealand), Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA, UK), Global Chartered Management Accountant (CGMA), and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE, USA).

His research excellence has been globally recognized. He has been listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists annually for seven consecutive years (2019–2025) by the Stanford–Elsevier ranking system and was also recognized as a career-long World’s Top 2% Scientist in 2024 and 2025. In addition, Research.com ranked him among the World’s Best Business and Management Scientists in 2025. Professor Abeysekera’s work reflects a sustained commitment to advancing knowledge in accounting, governance, and business research, with a strong global academic and professional impact.

Keynote Speaker

Dr. Gerasimos Balis

Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship University of Bristol, United Kingdom

Dr Gerasimos Balis is a PGR Director at the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the University of Bristol. He brings together and supports a diverse group of experienced researchers working on exciting projects. This ranges from creating university spinout companies and boosting financial resilience through community research to promoting female entrepreneurship in tech, empowering communities through social entrepreneurship, enhancing nursing entrepreneurship competencies, and helping companies achieve top performance with strategic entrepreneurship. He is an expert in Entrepreneurship, Design Thinking, and Systems Thinking, and his teaching is fueled by his research on Service Design for Entrepreneurship, where he looks at how design tools and a service-focused mindset can help entrepreneurs learn faster and achieve greater success.

Dr. Alvise Favotto

Adam Smith Business School University of Glasgow, United Kingdom

Dr. Alvise Favotto is the Deputy Director of Internationalization at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow. His research focuses on management control and governance systems, with a particular emphasis on corporate social responsibility and labor relations. As an expert in Management Control Systems, Corporate Accountability, Social and Environmental Accounting, Corporate Political Activity, Labor Rights, and Public Good. He has been the recipient of several prestigious research grants, including the CoSS Strategic Research Fund for Financial Education in Scotland, the Leverhulme Trust grant for Responsible Lobbyists: Corporate Responsibility and Public Policy. With 17 publications in world-ranked journals and five book chapters, Dr. Favotto’s work continues to shape discussions on corporate governance, sustainability, and ethical business practices.

The overall aim of the Doctoral Colloquium is to connect doctoral students to the wider research community. The Doctoral Colloquium will be highly interactive where you will meet young Doctoral students, peer researchers who have just finished their PhDs, and more experienced scholars. So, you are warmly welcome to share your Doctoral experiences and reflect your motivation then get feedback on your research questions, related theories, methods, and outcomes.

Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a highly recognized international research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ) in 2008. The Virtual 3MT of the ICOME 2025 challenges active PhD/MPhil/DBA candidates who have successfully passed their confirmation milestone (including candidates whose thesis is under submission) to present a captivating oral presentation on their higher degree research concisely in just 3 minutes using a single presentation slide.

The research papers submitted and presented at the conference will be considered for publication after the peer review process in the Sri Lanka Journal of Management Studies and Management Issues published by the Faculty of Management Studies, The Open University of Sri Lanka
