ABOUT icome 2024

In light of this phenomenon, Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) of the Open University of Sri Lanka has decided to host the third International Conference on Management and Entrepreneurship (ICOME 2024) under the theme of “Business Management, Entrepreneurship  and International Relations for Resilient Future” on 03rd of October 2024 on both virtual platform and onsite at the conference hall of Cewas (Centre of Excellence for Water & Sanitation), Ratmalana with the intention of creating a forum for all stakeholders including scholars, professionals, policymakers, and students to get together and share their ideas and knowledge to generate a better world with equity and sustainability.

Objectives

To bring local and foreign researchers and practitioners to a common forum to share and disseminate knowledge on current developments and insights in Business Management and Entrepreneurship.

To strengthen the scholarly and professional network among researchers.

To underpin the need for collaboration and cooperation of individuals from a wide range of professional backgrounds in Business Management and Entrepreneurship to contribute for a sustainable future.

Target presenters and participants

Local and foreign scholars, academics, professionals, practitioners and policy makers in Business Management and Entrepreneurship.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR Richard Scullion

Dr. Richard Scullion, an Associate Professor at Solent University, specializes in Business and Marketing. He earned his PhD from LSE and has extensively published on marketization, marketing communication, civic culture, and political communication. Currently, his research focuses on critically informed pedagogy and entrepreneurship. With a background of 20 years in the commercial sector, primarily as a marketing manager in travel and media industries, Dr. Scullion brings practical insights to academia. He possesses over 20 years of teaching experience across higher education levels and holds a Principal Fellowship of HE. Dr. Scullion has received numerous accolades, including the Solent University Vice-Chancellor’s Award in 2020 for outstanding contribution.

Professor Hossein Hassani

Professor Hossein Hassani was an Adjunct Professor at Webster University in Vienna, Austria. He has held a variety of leadership positions, including a Statistical Systems Coordinator position at the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). He has more than 15 years of experience in data science, statistics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data analytics. He has worked with diverse and multidisciplinary stakeholders across the world. Professor Hassani has published over 200 high-quality journal papers in various fields and has received multiple national and international awards, including the World Top 1% Scientist Award from Elsevier and Stanford University.

Professor Dilani Jayawarna

Professor Dilani Jayawarna is a highly respected Professor of Entrepreneurship at the esteemed University of Liverpool Management School. She completed her degree in Engineering from the prestigious University of Moratuwa in Sri Lanka and later earned her PhD from the renowned Manchester Business School. Dilani’s research primarily focuses on the areas of entrepreneurship and small business management, and she has made significant contributions to this field. She is currently involved in several noteworthy projects that explore entrepreneurial teams, exit decision complexities, and social enterprise resourcing strategies.

Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge

Professor Sampath Amaratunge, presently the Chairman of University Grant Commission (UGC) obtained his B.A. (Hons.) in Economics and his M.A. in Economics from the University of Colombo and MSc. in Economics of Rural Development from Saga National University and PhD from Kagoshima National University in Japan. He was the  former Vice chancellor of University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the former Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce (FMSC). Further, professor Amaratunge has won several awards including the prestigious Research Excellence Award (2002) of the Kyushu Society of Rural Economics, Japan.

Doctoral Colloquium

We Welcome all doctoral students within the wider field of Management and Entrepreneurship from around the World to the virtual platform of 03 rd International Conference on Management and Entrepreneurship (ICOME  2024) organized by the Faculty of Management Studies of the Open University of Sri Lanka. The overall aim of the Doctoral Colloquium is to connect doctoral students to the wider research community. The Doctoral Colloquium will be highly interactive where you will meet young Doctoral students, peer researchers who have just finished their PhDs, and more experienced scholars. So, you are warmly welcome to share your Doctoral experiences and reflect your motivation then get feedback on your research questions, related theories, methods, and outcomes.

Three Minute Thesis (3MT®)

Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a highly recognized international research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ) in 2008. The Virtual 3MT of the ICOME 2024 challenges active PhD/MPhil/DBA candidates who have successfully passed their confirmation milestone (including candidates whose thesis is under submission) to present a captivating oral presentation on their higher degree research concisely in just 3 minutes using a single presentation slide.
